Ghana Eyes Deeper UK Trade Links as Finance Minister Unveils 2025 Budget Focus—-Ghana‘s economic resilience and fiscal strategies took center stage as Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson engaged British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson in a high-level discussion on the country’s economic outlook and social interventions.
The meeting focused on Ghana’s 2025 Budget, with particular emphasis on strengthening social protection programs, including a significant increase in funding for the School Feeding Programme.
Dr. Forson reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balancing economic stability with social welfare, highlighting key measures to support vulnerable communities amid fiscal challenges.
In addition, the government is set to raise payments under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) scheme and has taken the decisive step to uncap statutory levies, including the NHIS Levy and GETFund. This strategic move is expected to empower these institutions with increased financial resources, enabling them to fulfill their mandates more effectively.
High Commissioner Harriet Thompson lauded the forward-looking nature of Ghana’s budget, describing it as a significant milestone in the nation’s broader economic recovery strategy.
