Rainstorm Triggers Carport Collapse at A&C Mall, Sparking Cost and Liability Concerns——A heavy downpour between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 in Accra, led to the collapse of a carport at A&C Mall in East Legon, causing extensive damage to several vehicles.
The structure, which covered a section of the parking lot, gave way under the force of the storm, crushing some cars and causing significant damage to others. The affected vehicles suffered varying degrees of destruction, including dented roofs, broken windshields, and severe structural damage. Some cars were completely trapped under the collapsed metal framework, while others sustained minor scratches and impact marks.
Owners of the damaged vehicles are now faced with the financial burden of repairs. While those with comprehensive insurance may be able to file claims, others with only third-party coverage will have to bear the full cost themselves. Repair costs for minor damage could run into thousands of cedis, while extensive damage may require full replacements, potentially costing tens of thousands.
The incident has also raised concerns among vehicle owners regarding responsibility for the damages. Some affected individuals were seen assessing the damage and making calls, while others expressed frustration over the unexpected loss.

As of now, A&C Mall management has not issued a statement on the incident. The collapsed structure remains in place as affected vehicle owners navigate the next steps in dealing with the aftermath of the storm.
